Bio
I got my start as a communicator at advertising and design agencies in New York City, including Chiat/Day, Pentagram, and Omnicom, among others. Later, I honed my professional skills through graduate studies at the S.I. Newhouse School of Public Communications at Syracuse University.
Writing countless pages of marketing and sales material with some of the most creative people in the world, I learned different ways to capture an audience’s attention. Using information, imagery, insight, humor, metaphor, or another device, I developed a flair for telling compelling branded stories across the full spectrum of media.
Before I became a communicator, I was an environmentalist. I studied pursued related studies as an undergraduate at Yale, worked as a door-to-door canvasser for a citizen action group, and generally enjoyed nature as an outdoor enthusiast and athlete. While my career went in another direction as I grew, my love for the natural world remained strong, especially when I became a parent and could share it with my children.
When my second son started Kindergarten, for the sake of a family-friendly schedule, I took a job at an independent school. There I gained valuable exposure to the culture of philanthropy and saw how fundraising built brands and loyalty in different ways.
Most recently, as the in-house director of communications and marketing at the nonprofit Van Alen Institute, I found an opportunity to integrate my values and experience at work. Campaigns focused on promoting design as a strategy for climate adaptation helped double the organization’s social media following, retain and attract new donors, and secure more than 100 unpaid media placements in one year.
Today, I specialize in working at the intersection of design, education, and the environment, seeking projects that represent at least two out of the three subjects. Driven by my professional experience and personal passion, my content is on-trend and compelling, gaining inquiries and engagement for my clients. My work is positive and persuasive, building brands, supporting sales, and inspiring giving.
When I’m not communicating, I can be found reading, taking an art or fitness class, enjoying the outdoors, or planning a gathering for close friends in Brooklyn.
